Florida’s legislature is gathering at a special session this week – but only on the issue of illegal immigration.
In doing so, legislative leaders have openly opposed the attempts of governor Ron Ron Ron to subjugate legislators to his will – and his ability to control the discussion.
For weeks, Roanis urges the legislature to be convened before the date of its regular session on March 4th to deal with issues that he insists that he cannot wait – in particular, repression against illegal immigration and difficulty in introducing the introduction of Leaded by citizens constitutional changes to the newsletter. He also wanted them to provide help with a hurricane and deal with the safety of condominium.
The chairman of the House of Representatives Daniel Perez addressed his members at 10:30 in the morning to say that he believed that special sessions “should be used sparingly”.
“They should not be tricks designed to generate titles. I do not like special sessions because they hinder the very thing that the legislative process must encourage: pressing and attracting meaningful conversations that lead to the development of good and better ideas. Special sessions must be reserved for those issues that cannot really be addressed in the normal course of the legislative process, “he said.
The problems that Zanthis raised in its proclamation for the special session, “just do not meet this threshold,” Perez added.
Instead, the legislature will wait for the civil initiative process, apartments and help with hurricanes during the regular session, he said.
But he said that he and Senate President Ben Albrite are ready to act on immigration after President Trump took office.
“We thought carefully at the proposal of Governor Zanthis and he had some good ideas. But many of his proposals are bureaucratic, “Perez said. “We do not need to duplicate immigration and customs in the United States and create a mini-ICE mini version. In addition, his proposals would abduct the operations of local law enforcement agencies, and at one point he even proposed arrest of local law enforcement officers.
“Four b”
Perez said he would cause Hilsborough district Republican Lawrence McClur to move what is called the law of coping and reforming the policy of illegal migration (or Trump’s law) that will focus on what he called the “four b” S
1. Dial and empower more badges,
2. Build more beds,
3. Close more bad and
4. Limit the benefits that attract illegal foreigners in Florida.
Albrite offered similar remarks from the Senate.

“I will not sit with my arms crossed and allow someone to ignore the constitutional powers that Florida people have given the legislature to write the laws of this state. Florida’s legislature matters, our opinions matter, our votes matter, “Albrite said. “The Florida Constitution says so, which is more important, our voters do.”
In addition, the Republican Party leaders have announced that their Immigration Bill will name the Agricultural Commissioner Wilton Simpson as Florida Immigration Chief and will set up a state immigration law enforcement service under the law enforcement department.
Simpson is a Republican, a former Senate president who is involved in the independent Florida cabinet, who, along with the governor, resolves some state policies.
According to a statement sent by legislative leaders, Simpson “will serve as a central point for coordination between the Trump Federal Government, US entities, local government entities and law enforcement agencies for the implementation of the federal immigration law.”
When he was asked to comment on this, the leader of the democratic minority in the House of Representatives Fentrice Driskel said: “As far as I understand, the Agricultural Commissioner and the Governor have never been close. So from this point of view it looks like…. The legislative management adheres to people who have been in the legislature and perhaps the people they prefer to work on the subject. “
Committee hearing will gather on the specific billing bills in the two chambers later on Monday, starting at 1:00 pm in the House. Perez said the whole body would return on Tuesday at 10am to vote on the bill.
Independence
In addition, almost the entire chamber and Senate confirmed their independence by voting to overcome the veto of the landing last year to allocate $ 57 million for the operational budget of the legislature. This money was intended for elements such as accounting and human resources, as well as for the financing of several government agencies and the historic Capitol building.
Perez noted that the House of Representatives managed to avoid dismissal of employees or stopping operations last year after the veto, using monetary reserves. He continued to criticize the governor’s cabinet, saying that “veto is at best misunderstanding the importance of assigning or in the worst attempt to threaten the independence of our separate branch of the government. Whatever the justification, this special session is the first opportunity to correct the veto that we will present to you for recovery. “
The Chamber (and the Senate) canceled this veto. Only the Republican Spring Senator of Spring Hill Blaze Ingolia, a close ally of the governor, opposed him.
The representative of the Orlando Democratic Chamber, Anna Escamani, said the cancellation of the veto shows that “the House of Representatives and the Senate of Florida are ready to oppose governor Ron Roanis. For the past six years, since I have been in the legislature, we have never done this and it is historic that we finally dispute the executive branch and say, “Do you know what, we will work as a separate branch of the government as we have to do all the time S I hope this is a change in the approach to the executive branch and the very aggressive approach of the governor of landing to the government, where he is heavy, dictates everything and continues to ignore us as a separate branch of the government. “
Albrite and Perez said to the landing two weeks ago that it was “completely irresponsible” to accept any legislative changes in immigration before Donald Trump took office, but the President’s promise to launch a mass deportment program only through through His first week of post.
Department appears at press conferences and made television appearances, putting pressure on the Republican party legislators to take immigration action for weeks – unanswered by legislative leaders.
The last time Florida’s legislative body abandoned a special session without taking action was when Charlie Christ returned to the city MPs in 2010 to vote a constitutional amendment that would allow voters to decide if they wanted a permanent ban of offshore oil wells in Florida waters.
However, this was after Krista left the Republican Party to run as an independent candidate for the US Senate, which facilitated Republicans to reproach him publicly. The situation is now completely different, with Republican leaders in the House of Representatives and the Senate standing their power in the face of the Republican governor in the face of Ron Roanis.
Governor’s accounts
In order to encourage legislators, landing has set the proposed language of the bill on the governor’s website.
On Sunday, bills were finally presented that were involved in immigration and the process of petitioning. The Republican from Spring Hill Blaise Ingoglia has tabled several bills in the Senate, with Palm Beach Republican Mike Caruso made this to the House of Representatives.
A bill that will cancel the state training for students without documents in colleges and universities in Florida was tabled in the Senate by the Republican of Lee Jonathan Martin and to the House of the Republican from the County John Paul Paul Temple.
