Talahasi police have charged a man for what they said was a sexual assault and robbery near the Palace Salon in the College area.

The 38 -year -old Boone Chanik was arrested on Wednesday. He is accused of robbery with a weapon and sexual battery of a person 18 years or older by a person 18 years of age or older, among others.

Police replied somewhere around 2 o’clock in the morning after a call from the victim. After the police arrived at the scene, she told them that she was walking from Palace Salon to her apartment complex, when a man appeared behind her, put her hand over her mouth and pushed her to the ground.

The victim said Boone told her, “If you scream, I’ll kill you.” The court records say he threatens to stab her if she does not comply, and the victim said she feels an object that presses at the lower back that he thinks it is a knife.

After the sexual attack, Boone stole the victim’s phone and then escaped from the stage in a white BMW. The accident officer called a partial plate number shared by the victim. This led to Boone’s arrest on the streets of Gaines and Adams.

Boone’s first appearance in court was deferred on February 3 to “see if he can hire a lawyer,” the court documents said.
