Suspect arrested after shootout with police in Guyana – Loop News Caribbean

A 23-year-old man is in custody after an early morning shootout with police in the Sand Pit/Onderneeming area where law enforcement recovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The incident happened at around 4am on Wednesday when police officers on a mobile patrol encountered three suspicious persons.

According to a police report, when officers approached the group, the suspects opened fire, prompting law enforcement to return fire. The suspects then ran in different directions.

During the pursuit, one suspect, identified as Reno Peyton of Sand Pit/Onderneeming, fell and suffered facial injuries.

Officers recovered a suspected 9mm handgun from Peyton, along with a magazine containing 14 rounds. Investigators also found a spent shell casing at the scene.

“A team of police officers is actively searching for the remaining two suspects in the Sand Quarry area,” police said.

Peyton is currently assisting authorities in their investigation.
