The Arizona Association of School Administrators (ASA) has named Scottsdale Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Scott Menzel as the 2024-2025 Arizona Principal of the Year.
As such, he is now a candidate for the ASA’s national organization, the AASA National Superintendent of the Year competition, according to a news release from the Scottsdale Unified School District.
ASA is a nonprofit organization founded in 1971 and represents more than 1,500 school administrators in Arizona. The Association of School Superintendents, known as AASA, is an organization of school system leaders that serves as a national voice for public education and school district leadership in Washington, DC
“There is no doubt that Dr. Menzel has worked tirelessly for the betterment of our school district and community,” Scottsdale Unified School District Board President Dr. Libby Hart-Wells said in the release. “This award is yet another testament to his leadership and dedication to quality education for all.” On behalf of the Board of Directors, we sincerely congratulate Dr. Menzel on this well-earned and well-deserved honor.”
ASA Executive Director Dr. Paul Tighe said the organization is proud to name Dr. Menzel as Superintendent of the Year.
“Dr. Menzel is truly deserving of this recognition, as demonstrated by his nomination and selection through a peer review process,” Tighe said in the release. “We have many great leaders across the state, and we are very proud to have Dr. Menzel represent Arizona as the 2025 Superintendent of the Year.”
As a result of the ASA award, Menzel is now Arizona’s nominee for national Superintendent of the Year honors to be presented by the AASA next spring. This annual award celebrates the talent and vision of those who lead the nation’s public schools.
