Again, the theme of the Sun Belt Conference heading into Week 10 is parity — or someone will be out of the bracket in this league.
Georgia Southern had a chance to go 4-0 in league play, but took a major hit on the chin in the form of a 47-19 drubbing by Ricky Rahne’s Old Dominion club. With this win, the Monarchs move into first place in the SBC East and hold the tiebreaker over the Eagles.
In the SBC West, UL Monroe met the same fate as Georgia Southern, falling short in their attempt to move to 4-0 in the conference. South Alabama handed the Warhawks a 46-17 rout that dropped the Jaguars to 3-1 in the league and allowed Louisiana to stay atop the division at 3-0 in the conference…well, 4-0 after the win in the early slot for the week on Tuesday.
James Madison picked up a decisive league win by defeating Southern Miss to move to 6-2, and with the way the Sun Belt has faltered from week to week, the Dukes’ 2-2 conference record doesn’t completely eliminate them from top of the league at the end of the regular season – if they can win.
