Laredo, Texas (KGNS) – The potential federal freezing caused anxiety for students who feared that this would affect their financial assistance.
It was a moment of anxiety and confusion for college students, after the news of the freezing of federal funding emerged. Uncertainty has increased whether financial assistance, such as Pell’s grant and federal loans, will be affected.
According to a student at Larendo College, Carlos Rodriguez, “I think this should not be done. Many students have problems paying their studies and everything, this affects the way their lives will be. “
Elo Juarez, another LC student, he had already considered an action plan to pay for his studies. Noting, “If that happened, I would have got more than one job. I’ll have to take two or three maybe four and it will be difficult to track the school. ”
With uncertainty about what will happen further, Juarez is not the only student to plan on the go. Many others, like LC student Gilberto Gutierrez, were considering options.
“I have to find a job. I’m sure there are programs that could help it, “Gutierrez said. At Texas A&M International University, students voted for freezing and how it would affect them.
“Pell Grant is one of the biggest grants we are given. This is our financial assistance. It is covered for the greater part of our school funding. Sometimes it doesn’t cover everything, so it’s quite scary to think about how we may have nothing to go to school, “said Brandi Kanizales.
Another Tamiu student who works and depends on the financial assistance, Sabrina Ruiz expressed his dissatisfaction. Noting: “As a replacement teacher, they do not receive as much pay. They are very much paid for only $ 8. Hours do not help me cover everything like training, fees and everything I have to pay at school. “
KGNS reached for both institutions about how they would help students depending on additional assistance to stay in school.
LC assured students that they are ready to assist in training payments if such a situation arises.
According to the associated Vice President of LC Record Management, Jessica Trevino, “If students will ever turn out to be looking for other alternatives or financial capabilities, the college has many scholarships for which students can apply for.”
Tamiu provided the following statement that reads:
