Staying Safe During Halloween Trick or Treating – KOLO

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – With Halloween coming up tonight, we’re taking a look at how you can stay safe while trick-or-treating.

Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue says it’s a good idea to walk the route with your family so you know where to cross the street.

Having glow sticks, flashlights, or any other reflective strips on you and your kids is also good to make sure other drivers can see you.

We also ask that you do not use open flames, battery operated candles and keep the path to the front door clear.

They also say there can be safety in numbers.

“I know as a father of two daughters growing up in this area, we’re always trick or treating with a large group and we always encourage glow sticks and flashlights, as long as the group is lit as well as possible, that’s always been our goal,” said TMFR Captain Clint Hayes.

TMFR also says drivers should turn on their headlights early and slow down and be especially aware of the road.
