State police are offering safety tips as winter storm leads to multiple crashes in Virginia – Wset

The winter storm, which arrived in Virginia at night, is involved in numerous catastrophes.

Since midnight on February 11, there are 305 crashes, with 24 injuries and no casualties, according to Virginia State Police.

VSP gives the drivers the following tips:

  • Use headlights. Increasing your visibility helps you avoid smooth and dangerous spots along the way, as well as helps other drivers to see you better.
  • Slow your speed. Although the state police are working closely with the Virginia Ministry of Transport (VDOT) to identify the problem areas along the Virginia highways during a winter storm, drivers still have to drive for conditions. Slowing speed gives you more time for safe response and avoidance of collapse. Drive your car based on your ability to maintain control over your car properly.
  • It’s not the back door. You need an increased stopping of the distance of smooth road surfaces. Give yourself more space between vehicles traveling in front of you to avoid collisions from the back end.
  • Fastening up. Most catastrophes that occur during winter time are caused by vehicles that glide into railings, off -road or other vehicles. Wearing a seat belt protects you from throwing around the inside of your car and suffering serious injuries to crash.
  • Check your car. Make sure your vehicle is in good condition. Complete the tank in advance. Check the windshield wipers, the windshield wiper fluid, tire tread, battery life, etc.
  • Don’t leave home Without window scraper, blanket, bottled water, breakfast, cell phone charger and flashlight.
