State investment aimed at producing clean energy and qualified jobs – Irvine Times

Ministers said offshore wind developers can now bid for financial support if they invest in the most people who are the UK.

The applications are open to the so -called pure industry bonus, offering financial support for offshore wind developers, provided they give priority to their investments in areas, including traditional oil and gas communities.

Remuneration support developers that build more durable factories for low carbon, offshore winds, cables and ports to reduce industrial emissions across the entire clean energy chain.

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said: “We support our proud production, coastal and oil and gas communities with good jobs, skills and investment in the private sector – providing the government’s plan for change.

“This is our superpowering mission for clean energy in action, starting growth, providing energy security and transforming cities and cities as part of the transition – from NIGG and Leith ports to Blyth and Hull production centers.”

Dan McGrele, CEO of Renewableuk, said: “Over 34,000 people in the UK are already working in the offshore wind industry, but there is an opportunity to fix this number by the end of the decade if we are growing the supply chain of the sector.

“Government initiatives, such as a pure industry bonus, combined with industrial initiatives to support innovation and the upcoming industrial strategy, can bring hundreds of millions of pounds of private investment in new production.”

Dhara Vyas, CEO of Energy UK, said: “The offshore wind is ready to become the spine of a decarbonized electricity system.

“In order to build an industry that is resistant to the challenges of the supply chain, we need a framework that supports sustainable implementation while promoting investment in the United Kingdom industrial heart zones.

“The pure industry bonus will help unlock economic growth, create opportunities for work and maintain the United Kingdom as a global leader in offshore wind.”

Up to £ 200 million funding can be provided, with the original Gigawatt 27 million pounds of offshore wind projects.

The results of the funding will be announced by the Secretary of Energy in the summer.

Unite Secretary -General Sharon Graham said the bonus scheme “is the baby’s step in the right direction, but the funding offered so far is not close enough to transform offshore wind production into the UK.”

She added: “If the government is going to come close to its goals for the production of domestic winds and green jobs, it will have to come up with much more ambitious levels of investment and make sure it delivers it.”
