St. Paul Shipwreck Holiday in Marsalfron on Sunday – Times of Malta

The holiday of a shipwreck St. Paul will be celebrated in the Church of Marsalfron on Sunday, February 9th.

On Saturday, February 8th, the eve of the holiday, Vespers will sing at 5:00 pm, followed by the translation of the relic, led by MGR Joe Zammit, at 5:30 pm. MGR Zammit will celebrate the percepted liturgy at 6:00 pm.

On Sunday, the tables will be said at 8, 10 and 11am. The Xagħra Victory Group and the Zebbu Santa Marija group will run the marches of the Group on the streets of Marsalfant at 3:30 pm. Church functions will start with Vespers, accompanied by the Malcolm Caruana organ, at 15.30.

The procession with the statue of St. Paul will start at 16:00. He will be led by the General D -C -Eparchian Vicar of the Diocese of Gozo Tarchishu Camilleri. Groups of Victory and Santa Maria will participate. After the procession, around 6:00 pm, MGR Camiller will lead a table.

In both days, the choir and the orchestra will be under the leadership of Colin Atard.

On Monday, February 10th, St. Paul’s liturgical holiday will be said at 8, 10 and 11am. Vespers will sing at 5:30 pm, followed by a concentration of mass from Father Mikiel Borg at 18:00. The music will be directed by Ivan Atard.

The Church of Marsalfort, dedicated to St. Paul, dates back hundreds of years. The plaque on the facade says that a church dedicated to St. Paul has existed since 1300. Tradition has claimed that St. Paul, after his three -month stay in Malta, left the island from the tiny port just below the church. This is the closest harbor of the islands to the pasture in Sicily.

The present church was built in 1878 through the initiative of Goso Bishop Pietro Pace. The author of the main altar depicting St. Paul’s shipwreck is unknown.
