Several more competitors – including a mayor candidate – appeared to qualify for the St. George’s Municipal elections on the last day of qualification on Friday.
Earlier this week, on the first day of qualification, they were ranked mainly by the current employees on the first day of qualification for the first municipal elections in the city.
The group includes the mayor of the city, the head of the police and four members of the council. Governor Jeff Landry appointed them to his intermediate positions last year.

Republican Jim Morgan qualifies on Friday to challenge Dustin Yates as mayor. Morgan is a member of the Regional Council of St. George Commissioners.
Three more candidates, all Republicans, joined the council members in the competition in the biggest competition: Scot Emnet, William Johannes and Jim Talbot. Emonet is a lawyer at Balfour Emonet’s Law Firm. Johannessen is a local businessman who was appointed to replace Baton Rouge police chairman and Brandon Williams Fire Service last April. Johannessen released the seat three months later after St. George’s inclusion. Talbot is a member of St. George’s Transition District. They join Sean Wych, Joel Davis and David Deluci in the race.
Three candidates qualified to run against Cook Money in District 4: Independent David Madafari and Shannon Powell and Republican Justin Turner.
