The Spanish Springs return to the top of the basketball girls in 4A-north, thanks to the 60-34 win over Reed on Friday.

The cougars won the League title and the best seeds for the regional for the first time since the 2019-20 season.

And as a loss to Renault in mid-January the cougars (15-1) played with a renewed fierce.

Spanish Springs Art Cardans coach said the loss had caused his team.

“This game really turned to us. We took things for granted,” Cardans said. “Things were coming easy, Renault played well. They played great. They queued us and focused.”

Renault (14-2) is seed # 2, Reed (13-3) is # 3, and Bishop Manogue is # 4 Seed for Playoffs.

Renault has not lost after failure 43-42 in Reed on December 30th. The Huski defeated Spanish Springs, 59-41, on January 17, to avenge an earlier loss. Renault defeated McQueen, 62-40 on Friday night for the 11th consecutive Husky victory.

Reed is 20-4 as a whole, a dramatic twist after finishing 3-17 last season.

In the game of play, at 19:00 Monday, No. 9 McQueen plays at 8 Galena.

In the quarterfinals, all at 19:00 Wednesday, No. 5 Damonte Ranch played at 4 Bishop Manogue; No. 7 Carson is No. 2 Renault; No. 8 Douglas is # 3 reeds; And the winner of McQueen/Galena will play in Spanish Springs. The semifinals are set for 19:00 Friday with higher seeds.

The Regional Basketball Championship for Girls of the 4A-North is set for 15:00 Saturday in Spanish Springs. Only the regional winner of 4A-North progresses in the state, February 21-22 in Las Vegas.

  • No. 5 Damonte’s Ranch in No. 4 Bishop Manogue
  • No. 7 Carson is at # 2 Renault
  • No. 8 Douglas is # 3 cane
  • The winner of McQueen/Galena in Spanish Springs.

Class 3a-north

In the regional playoff 3A-north, at 5:30 pm Monday, Elko is in Northern Valley and Lowi is in Southern Taho. Hume will play in Fernley and Water is in Fallon.

For the northern valleys, this is the third straight 3A-west 3A-west league.

The regional semifinals and the 3A championship are February 14-15 in Fernley.

Grade 2A

Jerrington (17-1) is the top seed in 2A-north.

The regional 2A-North is February 13-15 in the County of Perushing.

Grade 1A

The regional 1A west is on February 14 at higher seeds and the championship is at 11am in February 15 in Spanish Springs.

Pyramid Lake (11-0) is the top seed in 1A west. Eureka and McDermitt are both 10-1 and tied top 1a-east.
