BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Southwest Airlines officially began nonstop flights from Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport to Nashville on Sunday.
To mark the inaugural flight, BHM organized a special party for the passengers. Travelers could enjoy free snacks and gifts and had the chance to register for Southwest Airlines gift cards.
Sunday’s first flight to Nashville marks the second new Southwest flight route from BHM in the past month. On October 3, Southwest began direct flights to Phoenix, Arizona.
Birmingham-Shuttlesworth says passenger traffic at the airport is up 7% this year. The airport now serves 21 nonstop destinations in 18 cities across the United States.
