Southeastern NC Veterans Parade in Wilmington: What you need to know about bands, events and parking – AOL

Veterans Day, a federal holiday observed in the United States annually on November 11, honors military veterans of the United States Armed Forces.

Here’s what you need to know about the Southeastern North Carolina Veterans Parade.

when is the parade

The Southeastern North Carolina Veterans Parade will be held on Saturday, November 9th at 11am in downtown Wilmington in conjunction with the Hanover County Veterans Council. More than a thousand veterans will march or attend. A pre-show will be held at 10 a.m. on Third Street.

Pre-show events

  • A Veteran Day Brass Quintet (members of Wilmington Virtuosi Brass, Port City’s new British brass band). Members ― Stephen Luck, USA Retired, trumpet. David Rainville, US Air Force veteran, trumpet; Cheryl Stump, retired USAF, horn; Rob McSherry, USMC Renired, trombone; and Brian McBride, DMA, tuba.

  • Dancing on beaches and boots

  • Molly Lees, CEO, executive coach and engagement speaker at Golden Age Leadership and serves as Director of Leadership, Learning and Employee Engagement at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

  • Ethan Powell will recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

  • The UNCW Seabelles, an all-female a cappella group, will sing the “National Anthem.”

Groups/Events

  • The parade honoring all veterans, active duty and reservists will begin at 11 a.m

  • The East Carolina University Marching Pirates will return as the headlining band. Members of the Marching Pirates come from five different states. However, most are from eastern and central North Carolina, with some from western counties. The group will perform a mix of “student schtick” with drum beats and student dances. Between these routines, the band will perform a medley of war songs.

  • NC State Pipes and Drums

  • Wilmington Police Horns

  • Tryon Palace Fifes and Drums

  • North Brunswick High School Orchestra

  • Lejeune High School Orchestra

  • Ashley High School Orchestra

  • Hoggard High School Orchestra

  • 440th Army Band

  • A Veterans Celebration and Information Fair presented by the Southeastern North Carolina Veterans Parade will be held Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. at The Eagles Dare, 420 N. Third St. The fair gives veteran and family service organizations a chance to talk to veterans, families and supporters. The Clams will play the event alongside other bands.

Parking

The public parking areas are:

  • Lanier Parking Garage, 115 Market St.

  • City of Wilmington Parking Deck, 114 N. Second St. (between Chestnut and Princess Streets)

  • Cape Fear Community College, Nutt Street parking lot
