While several cities in South Florida have concluded agreements with immigration and application of the customs authorities on how the police will handle the federal implementation of immigration, a city wants to first receive explanations from the court before deciding.
South Miami Mayor Javier Fernandez said he and the city commissioners have several questions, including whether they are legally obliged to sign the ice agreement.
This is a topic that has been causing a dispute recently.
The cities that sign the ICE agreement agree to help with the implementation of immigration and it allows trained employees to apply some federal immigration laws.
Last month, Hialeah and Coral Gables signed the agreement.

Fernandez said South Miami was already collecting efforts to implement immigration.
“The city seeks to determine whether the signing of the agreement is a legal obligation or whether it can continue to support icy operations under the existing state law, as it is currently doing,” a statement of the city is partly.
The mayor said they had a few concerns if they sign this agreement.
“The most basic are, what does our profile look like if we are sued for civil rights, because we have detained someone wrong? “This is an amendment to our work agreement because we ask our cops to do more than what we have negotiated in our negotiation agreement?”
Fernandez said that if the court decides that he had to sign the agreement in order to comply with the law, they would do so.
If not, they will have a conversation about what to do.
