Some drivers ran out of parking spots at the Magic City Classic after pre-paying for them – WBRC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – WBRC is working to get answers from city officials about parking issues outside the Magic City Classic.

Many people were stuck in traffic on Graymont Avenue Saturday afternoon trying to park in parking lot F for the Magic City Classic. The line was backed up to the Center Street intersection at one point.

Dozens of people were unable to park in a parking lot, they pre-paid $58 to secure a spot.

A woman waits in her car for nearly an hour before getting out to find out what’s going on.

The parking lot attendants and police officers manning the parking lot told her and our team that the parking lot was full.

“I feel like at this point they should come out, give everybody their money back and then we can go and pay other people to park because at this point we’re paying double,” she said. “The only reason I paid for parking is because of all the crime, so I thought if we paid to go to the game and then park in the lot, we wouldn’t have to deal with breaking and entering or anything like that . We usually don’t even pay for parking!”

WBRC reached out to the City of Birmingham to find some answers. A Parks and Recreation representative said they’ve only sold 450 of the 500 parking spaces in that lot, so there shouldn’t be a problem.

The rep said they will look into the issue some more and get back to our team. As of Saturday night, we still haven’t heard back.

Some drivers, left without parking spaces, want their money back.
