Socceroos abroad: Irvine, O’Neill assists, Toure, Miller goals – Socceroos

There were plenty of goals for our Socceroos abroad this weekend as many made headlines in European football.

Jackson Irvine led his St Pauli side to a decisive victory in Germany, Aidan O’Neill continued his fine form, Lewis Miller and Mohamed Toure scored and Mitch Langerak won silver medals in Japan.

In the Bundesliga, Jackson Irvine (#568) played for St Pauli in their 2-0 win over Hoffenheim on Sunday. The St. Pauli captain assisted both goals, which lifted his side out of the relegation places.

In the First Division A of Belgium, Aidan O’Neill (cap #629) continued his excellent form by scoring an assist and playing a full game for Standard Liège as they beat St Truydon 2-1 on Sunday. The midfielder also completed 46 of his 51 passes – an impressive 90% pass accuracy.

Mohamed Toure (cap #636) had an excellent 71 minutes for Randers in their 4-1 win over Sønderijske on Sunday in the Danish Superliga. Toure recorded a goal and an assist for the team and is now ranked ninth among under-21 players in goal contributions per 90 minutes (according to CIES Football Obs). Paul Izzo was the goalkeeper for Randers.

Also in the competition, John Iredale (cap #640) scored in his 86 minutes for AaB as they drew 3-3 with Vejle Boldklub on Monday. This means the striker now has back-to-back goals in the competition.

Mitch Langerak (Cap. #566) helped Nagoya Grampus secure the J.League Cup against Albirex Niigata on Saturday afternoon. The goalkeeper made several crucial saves in a 3-3 draw as the game went to penalties. Langerak then scored Nagoya’s second spot-kick en route to lifting the trophy.

Thomas Deng (cap #598) came on in the 114th minute for Albirex and also scored his penalty in the shootout.

Nestorius Irankunda (cap #643) is played from the 66th minute of Bayern Munich II’s 5-2 win over Burghausen on Saturday night in the Regionalliga Bayern. The forward scored less than two minutes after coming on.

In the EFL Championship, Harry Suttar (cap #606) helped keep another clean sheet for Sheffield United in their 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on Sunday. Souttar showed his quality at the back with seven clearances and two interceptions throughout his match.

In the Scottish Premiership, Louis Miller (cap #635) gave Hibernian the lead in their 1-1 draw with Dundee United on Monday. Miller played an hour for Hibs while Martin Boyle (cap #599) was taken off in stoppage time for the side.

Ryan Strain (cap. #624) played the first half of the match for Dundee United. Strain’s Dundee restored parity in the dying embers to see out the points shared with Hibs.

Also on Sunday, Calum Elder (cap #614) played the second half of Derby County’s 2-1 loss to Stoke City in the Championship.

Kusini Yengi (Cap #638) played 67 minutes in Portmouth’s 1-1 draw with Hull City. Samuel Silvera (cap #634) came on for Portsmouth in the 75th minute.

Finally, on Sunday, Riley McGree (Cap #509) played 75 minutes for Middlesbrough as they lost 3-0 to Coventry. The side was reduced to 10 men midway through the first half.

In the English Premier League, Cameron Burgess (cap #633) played the entirety of Ipswich Town’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City. The defender had a solid game, winning five of six aerial duels and making nine assists in the final third. Massimo Luongo (Cap #571) was on the bench for Ipswich.

Everywhere else in the Scottish Premier League, Kai Rawls (cap #622) played a full game for Hearts as they beat St Johnstone 2-1 on Sunday. Cameron Devlin (cap #625) was substituted in the 57th minute for the country.

Apostolos Stamatelopoulos (Cap #644) played 63 minutes for Motherwell as they lost 2-1 to Rangers on Monday.

Also Josh Nisbet (cap #642) played all of Ross County’s 0-0 draw with St Mirren.

In the Scottish Championship on Sunday, Ryan McGowan (capt. #546) played a full game for Livingston as they drew 1-1 with Queens Park.

Elsewhere in the competition, Dylan McGowan (cap #590) scored Hamilton Academical’s fourth goal in a 4-0 win over Airdrieonians on Sunday morning. McGowan came off the bench in the 33rd minute for the side.

Matty Ryan (cap #555) was on the bench for Roma’s 3-2 loss at Hellas Verona on Monday in Serie A.

In the First Division A of Belgium, Jordan Boss (cap #632) was substituted in the 74th minute for Westerlo as they beat FCV Dender EH 2-0 on Saturday morning.

In the Italian Serie B, Azhdin Hrustich played a full game for Salernitana after they drew 1-1 with Cosenza on Monday morning.

In the Swedish Allsvenskan, Alex Gersbach (cap #587) played 58 minutes in Kalmar FF’s 1-1 draw with IFK Gothenburg on Sunday morning.

In the Eliteserien in Norway, Janie Stenses (hat #671) played the first half of Viking’s 3-2 win over Sandefjord on Sunday morning. Nicholas D’Agostino (cap #621) entered the game in the 64th minute for the team.

Fran Karicic (Cap #607) played a full game for NK Lokomotiva as they lost 1-0 to Slaven in Croatia’s HNL on Sunday. The result sees NK Lokomotiv slip to the bottom of the table.

In the J. League, Mitch Duke (cap #559) played the first half of Machida Zelvia’s 2-1 loss to Sagan Tosu on Sunday afternoon.

Jacob Italiano played from the 42nd minute of the 0-0 draw between Grazer AK and Austrian powerhouse RB Salzburg on Sunday in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Nectarius Triantis played a full match in midfield for Hibernian as they drew 1-1 with Dundee United in the Scottish Premier League.

Cameron Peupion played 90 minutes for Brighton and Hove Albion’s academy in their 4-2 win over Southampton Academy on Saturday in Premier League 2.
