Los Angeles (KABC) – Southern California is moving from red flag conditions to precipitation this weekend with showers, mountain snow and a big cold snap, raising concerns about debris flow and mud.
When will it rain in Southern California?
Rain is expected Saturday and Sunday, bringing a quarter to a half inch of rain to the area. Rain is also expected on Monday.
The Palisade Fire Area could expect close to an inch of rain Monday, while the Eaton Fire Area could see about an inch over the three-day period. A flood watch will be in effect Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon for parts of Southern California, including the Palisades and Eaton Burn areas.
A WINTER STORM WARNING for the Eastern San Gabriel Mountains will be in effect Saturday afternoon through Monday afternoon. Heavy snow is expected.
What is the rainfall timeline?
Some areas may see some scattered light Saturday into Saturday night. Scattered rain is expected Sunday morning, but more rain will come in the afternoon and evening. Some areas in the San Gabriel Valley saw heavier rain.
Monday afternoon will see some scattered showers, and then the rain is poised to move out of the area by Tuesday.
Rainfall sums
Most of the South will likely see anywhere between 1/2 inch to 3/4 of an inch of rainfall from this storm.
The San Gabriel Mountain area will see anywhere between 1 to 2 inches of rain.
Valley regions and the Inland Empire could see anywhere between 1/2 inch to an inch of rain.
Saturday weather for Southern California
Los Angeles and Orange counties on Saturday can expect a 60 percent chance of rain in the evening – about a quarter of an inch. A high of 59 and a low of 46 is on tap. A quarter inch to a half inch of rain could fall on Sunday.
The Valleys and Inland Empire on Saturday will also see about a 60 percent chance of rain in the evening, between a quarter inch to a half inch of rain. A high will be in the 50s and an overnight low of 44. Similar weather is expected Sunday.
Beaches can expect temperatures in the 50s for the next few days. Light rain will come in the evening on Saturday.
Mountain communities on Saturday will see about 2-4 inches of snow at elevations around 5,000 feet. More snow is expected Sunday, when temperatures drop into the 30s.
The deserts will be cold on Saturday with gusty winds and showers. A high of 58 and a low of 30 are expected.
