Brandon Hanson is the new CEO of Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc. Although it is relatively new to DTSF, Inc., it has been connected to the city center for some time through previous jobs in the Pavilion of Washington, Sculpturewalk and EMBE. Hanson sat down with Siu Falls, forgiven to talk about his new role, his goals and his cafes.

The answers are edited for length and clarity.

Give us a little background, how are you intelligent for the center of Sioux Falls and DTSF, Inc.?

I went to school for art and theater, and later I returned and received MBA -it was probably more natural for me.

  • The bigger part of my career was with a pavilion in many roles there from their work at their museum to the director of all museums and then ultimately managing sculpturewalk. I continued from there and went to assign operations to raise children for 1500 families.

I saw late last spring that DTSF hired Vice President … I don’t have to look for a job, but I decided to send my application and learn more. Through the interview process, I just fell in love with the organization.

We are all here for simplicity. Can you describe your new job with 10 words or less?

Combining people to build a thriving business community.

What are some of your main priorities right now for the city center?

So many people are developing in the city center and DTSF, this small non -profit purpose, can get a lot of credit about how incredible the city center is. But we really need a lot of us to make this amazing.

However, the main priorities for me in the non -profit purpose of DTSF is to re -connect the organization to the membership base.

  • I think in the last few years we have been really humble and more in the background and I really want every member to know not only my name, but also the names of the members of my team and knows where to go when they need something.
  • We offer a lot of truly incredible tangible services and resources of small business, and I think if they have a very easy way to Thsoe they would use them even more

Another priority would be to bring our ambassador program (which maintains the interior of homelessness) internally.

Which is the biggest misconception you hear about the Sioux Falls center and can you help us set up the record?

This may be my own misconception, but when I appeared, I somehow thought of DTSF as an event company. We certainly have some events with signature but we are not an event company

We are an organization in the city center, which focuses on activating and creating a place that at the end of the day what we measure is foot traffic and economic impact.

  • It’s really just about driving your feet in any way to the city center area and then letting the incredible businesses here take advantage of it.

If you could wave a magic wand and bring a new resource to the city center, what would it be?

In the retail and food and drinks, the first few years (in business) are quite unstable with start -ups, inventory, investing in marketing. All this combined can be a really clear recipe for a few years.

My magic wand would be to build a library of resources to help level these ups and falls in the first year and two, and to reach those third, four and five, where it is a little more stable and the statistical likelihood of staying around And stay open is much higher.

  • This can be a customer service training, this may be a pair with an expert who is great in logistics or may enter and advise you – maybe this is a mentoring program.

Say you have a friend who visits outside the city, where are some of the first places you occupy, downtown or otherwise?

Well, certainly in the city center.

It is probably dependent on what day of the week – personally I am a big fan of our coffee culture in the city center. You can even take a small coffee tour if you are ready to drink so much espresso for a day – go to Queen City, breaks. Even from these two, you have a good presentation of two very different atmospheres and environments.

We are probably looking for fun after that – maybe sculpturewalk as we wait for lunch to come.

Then I would like to take someone to Bibisol, especially with their new business, very incredible food, but also because they were recently nominated for the James Brad Award.

  • Then you can follow it with Chch Patisserie (also nominated for the James Beard Award).

Then I think we would bind it to the State Theater. There is the best audio/visual experience in the city, super low prices and just the story there is incredible.

Something else you would like good people from Sioux Falls to know about you, your new job or DTSF as a whole?

We have such a small team, but we are all so affordable. We will be glad to take coffee with anyone at any time.
