Pierre, SD (Dakota News now) – South Dakota Transport Commission awarded 17 bridge funds for a total value of about $ 16.6 million at a recent meeting in Pierre.
“The big program continues to be vital for the preservation, rehabilitation and replacement of the structures of local self -government, and SDDOT praised the Transport Commission for their continuous engagement to provide state funding for this critical program of the local government,” said Joel Jund, secretary of transport.
The grant recipients include:
- Sioux Falls
- County Aurora
- Brown County
- BUT County
- County Codington
- Cordson County
- Caster County
- Davison County
- Lawrence County
- Meade County
- County were passing
- Pennington County
- Sanborne County
- Union County
Davison and Pennington County received two grants.
In order to qualify for great grant, the county must apply a wheel tax and create a five -year plan on a highway and a bridge to improve the bridge outlining the proposed projects.
Each year, $ 7 million from registration plates and non -commercial fees for vehicles, along with $ 8 million from state -owned highway funds, amount to $ 15 million for a grant program to improve the building (BIG).
Currently, the large program has awarded $ 182 million grants to local authorities, including this year’s distributions.
Local authorities are required to pay a minimum of 20 percent coincidence and have three years to spend the sentence for grant.
Applications for the next round of the large program are to come on Friday, August 1, 2025, for the Preliminary Engineering category (PE).
