SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Authorities in South Dakota were investigating recent burglaries when they found a suspect hiding in a warehouse.
Officers from the Madison, South Dakota Police Department were at the AmericInn on Friday, January 24th investigating a series of thefts.
According to a statement from the Madison Police Department, officers found someone identified as one of the suspects hiding in the property’s storage room.
Officers believe the suspect provided a false name and his identity cannot be confirmed.
During the investigation, the suspect fled from officers on foot. After a short chase, he was caught and detained.
The suspect was evaluated by medical personnel before being transported to the Lake County Jail in South Dakota.
Law enforcement later identified the suspect as 28-year-old Wiley Dean Spencer of Sioux City.
Spencer has five active warrants out of Woodbury County totaling $172,000 for charges related to first-degree robbery, drug charges and theft, according to Madison police.
Spencer’s pending charges from Madison police include the following:
- Fake personality
- Obstructing a law enforcement officer
- Criminal trespass to a motor vehicle
- Petty theft
