The Shepard family has announced the tragic and unexpected death of Pastor Paul Shepard, leader of Destiny Christian Community in Fremont, California.

Pastor Shepard who has has been in pastoral ministry since 1982died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, according to a statement jointly signed by First Lady Meredith Shepherd and the Shepherd family.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of my husband and our beloved pastor, Pastor Paul E. Shepard, who entered into rest on Saturday, January 25, 2025,” the family said in a statement.

Pastor Shepherd has led Destiny Christian Fellowship as Senior Pastor since 2009. He was previously the senior pastor of Abundant Life Christian Fellowship in Mountain View, California, serving for two decades between 1989 and 2009.

After his call to the ministry in 1982, Pastor Paul Earl Shepherd served as Associate Psalmist of West Oak Lane Church of God in his hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, the Center for Urban Theological Studies, and the Southern California School of Ministry, from which he received a master’s degree in ministry and was later awarded a doctorate in divinity. Sheppard also hosts the widely popular podcast Destined for Victory and is the author of books including Rebuilding What the Enemy Almost Destroyed, Why God Created Dads, and Build a Bridge and Get Over It.

Shepard is survived by his wife, Meredith, whom he married in 1982, and their two children, Alicia Greer and Aaron Shepard.

The news of his death stunned his congregants, most of whom left messages in tribute to him.

“Pastor Paul has put this word out like no other and my last few visits have been great,” read one such rave.

“The best pastor. he taught us in layman’s language, with an added sense of humor, always rightly dividing the Word of Truth,” wrote another congregant.
