Rusty, burned and broken

Pauline Drautko finds new force in the centuries -old injuries

Anyone who experiences the installation artist of the installation Polina Srudko of the upcoming Still born to a stationary The exhibit may feel that they pass through a portal into the darker corners of a person’s mind. In fact, the installation literally has a door that holds this intention.

“The” salt in the wound “was made in response to the fact that Utah was becoming the fourteenth state to adopt the law anti-transacre for the bathroom,” Srutko told SFR. “I was so angry, so I took this door and took a shot for a blow. The door is the door they closed to me – to us. ”

The Smutko’s found workpiece expresses what a trauma looks and feels like a non -binting trance woman living in American society. They have always gravitated to art as an expression of expression, though it does not mean that the path to discovering the mentioned expression is easy.

Smutko visited the University of Pennsylvania in the 1970s, although their father would not pay for a art school, so they pursued landscape architecture. However, Smutko was attracted to the Vietnam war before graduating from school – though they were eventually fired because of Queer. Later, they visit the Institute of Art in San Francisco and have even worked as an assistant chef at the galley on a ship used in the production of the original 1980. Shogūn Miniser. During this period, Smutko was confronted with a small amount of Queerphobia, although he ultimately learned to use this emotional pust for his creative pursuits.

“My pieces draw on trauma tested by dehumanized and marginalized,” they explain. “I was emotionally

Bully for a long period of time, and I was spinning with a collapse. ”

Srutko returned to the United States while still in a dark place, but through their art they managed to reappear over the decades with an effort to break their trauma. Through objects such as burned doors, chairs and branches, rusty nails, broken glass and a written word, the vision of Srutko comes to life.

“It doesn’t matter if people acquire my exact meaning, as long as the piece makes them feel, and their materials speak,” they say. “I don’t want to be literal. I hate that. I work with metaphors and objects that I believe I really say something. “(Adam Ferguson)
