Senator Cruz Discusses International Trade – Rio Grande Guardian

LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Senator Ted Cruz received a key to the city of Laredo from Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño during an event at the La Posada Hotel.

The award was given in recognition of Cruz’s legislative work to secure presidential authorization for a new international bridge in Laredo.

Laredo is the nation’s #1 port for international trade. City leaders are pushing for infrastructure improvements and additional capacity to keep up with the growth in commerce.

Before the ceremony, Cruz met privately with Treviño, US Congressman Henry Cuellar and Nuevo Leon Governor Samuel Garcia. The meeting focused on growing international trade between the US and Mexico.

“As everyone knows, the World Trade Bridge is already the largest land port in the United States and helps support hundreds of thousands of jobs throughout the state of Texas,” Cruz told KGNS-TV.

“My number one priority is jobs, jobs, jobs and that means fighting for the people of Laredo, fighting for the people of South Texas to have more jobs and better jobs and higher wages. “

Before heading to Laredo for the event, Cruz visited Rio Grande City to celebrate the legislation he helped pass that will allow for the widening of the Starr-Camargo International Bridge. Starr-Camargo Bridge Company Vice President Robert A. Vail says the plan is to build a second span.

And before the visit to Rio Grande City Cruise was in Harlingen. At a re-election campaign event at the Don Gollito restaurant, Cruz spoke about his work promoting international trade.
