LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – On Wednesday, Oct. 23, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz received the key to the city of Laredo from Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño during an event at the La Posada Hotel.
Before the ceremony, Cruz met privately with US Congressman Henry Cuellar and Nuevo Leon Governor Samuel Garcia. The meeting focused on growing trade between the US and Mexico, with Laredo playing a key role as a major port of entry.
During the presentation, Mayor Treviño thanked Cruz for his work on laws that help international trade and the future of Laredo.
Cruz said he was honored to receive the key to the city.
“As everyone knows, the World Trade Bridge is now the largest land port in the world in the United States and helps support 100,000 jobs across the state of Texas,” Cruz said. “My number one priority is jobs, jobs, jobs and that means fighting for the people of Laredo, fighting for the people of South Texas to have more jobs and better jobs and higher wages. “
Cruz also mentioned his work with Mayor Treviño and Congressman Cuellar to expedite permits for four new bridges in South Texas, two of them in Laredo.
The event highlighted Laredo’s key role in U.S.-Mexico trade, with leaders pushing for better infrastructure to keep up with growing trade.
