Although Gilbert said she doesn’t have specific things she does to work on her mental game, the way she approaches her daily activities has a big impact on her game.
“I’ve noticed that at night when I don’t get much sleep, I get more frustrated,” Gilbert said. “The more frustrated I get, the worse I play. I’m just trying to sleep as well as I can.”
Looking ahead, not only does winning the award give Gilbert confidence heading into her senior season, but she has also already committed to play golf at Indiana State University.
“I feel very confident,” Gilbert said. “Honestly, I feel like I can relax more (when I’m playing) and not have as much pressure throughout the season.”
Gilbert said he’s looking forward to being able to just worry about himself during his senior year.
“It’s going to be nice to go out there and just focus on my game,” Gilbert said. “I’m not going to look at what another girl is doing or worry about her shooting better than me. That’s another part of the mental game you need to work on, and it’ll be nice not to have to worry about that.
Although her senior year remains, Gilbert is already looking forward to starting her career at Indiana State.
“I’m excited to take the sport to the next level,” Gilbert said. “It’s going to be really fun meeting new girls and it’s going to be a lot different than high school because of the travel, which is going to be really cool.”
Gilbert and the Indians begin the 2023 season on August 29 at the Vizational Tournament.
