Seattle Seahawks can create over $ 50 million in Cap Room with 4 moves – Sports Illustrated

Seattle Seyhox restructures the Defense Treaty near Leonard Williams. This move has approximately reduced their effective debt to reduce salaries by half, with about $ 31 million up to $ 16.7 million above the cap. Although a good start, the Seahawks front office will have to make a few more moves to create the room it needs to fill out our 2025 NFL seasons list.

Along the way, they may need to make an unpopular transaction or two, but this is the price of business in the wage cap era. Here are four moves that General Manager John Schneider can do, which will put them over $ 50 million in the cap. All wage information is from above the cap.

Seahawks barely return to the black with our first proposed move: cutting a 10-year veteran receiver Tyler Locket. This will create dead money, struck just under $ 14 million, but also returns them under the cap. Locket has had a good start, but the last two seasons have proven to be in a sharp decline. If it can still provide value for a team like Raiders or Jaguars, so it is – but it’s time to end the Lockett era in Seattle. This move reaches Seattle to several hundred thousand dollars under the cap.

The next move is a huge change in the direction of the team, as they continue by the defender Jeno Smith after serving as their starter for three years. Smith is better than the NFL average starter, but not so much better than the average that it costs $ 50 million a year or so he is likely to ask for his next deal. Seattle can get the initial start to the inevitable by trading Smith by Pete Carol, Tom Brady and Raiders in Las Vegas. This move saves the team of $ 31 million.

After throwing both Thaler Locket and Gendo Smith, there is a case to blow up the whole thing and restore the passing game around Jackson Smith-Nigba and a younger, cheaper QB. However, we would feel better in the long-term picture if they hold DK Metcalf around, even if it is surpassed as a JSN team. Giving Metcalfe a new contract saves the team another $ 13.5 million in Cap Room, putting them at about $ 45 million.

Last but not least, Seahawks should seem to reset the narrow end position where they have deteriorated over the last few years than any team outside Carolina. Noah Fant ended the 2024 season with 48 catch, 500 host yards and just one touch. The odds are that Fant will not be missed by the new offensive coordinator Clint Cubiak, and its cutting saves the team another $ 8.91 million in Cap Room. This puts them at about $ 54 million for the season, which should be enough to restore the offensive line in something respected.
