The Seattle Federal Judge is blocking President Donald Trump’s efforts to stop the national refugee admission system on Tuesday.
The decision came in a lawsuit brought by large refugee assistance groups claiming that Trump’s executive order, which stopped the Federal Refugee Migging Program headed for the System Congress created to move refugees to the United States
The administration’s lawyers claim that Trump’s order is within his powers to deny entry into foreigners whose recognition in the United States “would be harmful to the interests of the United States.”
US District Judge Jamal Whitehead said in his decision after hearing on Tuesday that the president’s actions were “effectively invalidating the will of Congress” in the creation of the National Refugee Admission Program.
“The president has a significant judgment … to stop receiving refugees,” Whitehead told the countries. “But this body is not limitless.”
The lawyer of the Ministry of Justice August Flentje told the judge that the government would consider whether to file an appeal.
The plaintiffs include the international project to support refugees on behalf of the World Church Service, the Jewish Hias Refugee Agency, the Lutheran Public Services to the Northwest and the individual members of refugees and the family. They said that their ability to provide critical services to refugees – including those already in the United States – is highly hindered by Trump’s order.
Some refugees who were approved to come to the United States had canceled their trip in the short term, and families who had been waiting for years to gather had to remain separated, the lawsuit said.
Trump’s last order said the refugee program – a form of legal migration to the United States – would be terminated as cities and communities were subject to “record levels of migration” and did not have the ability to “absorb a large number of migrants and by -special, refugees. “
The Federal Refugee Program has existed for decades and has been helping people who have escaped war, natural disasters or persecution. Despite many years of support from both countries to adopt carefully checked refugees, the program has become politicized in recent years.
Trump also temporarily stopped him in his first term, and then drastically reduced the number of refugees that can enter the United States every year.
Last week, Federal Judge in Washington, Colombia, refused to immediately block the Trump administration’s actions in a similar lawsuit, filed by the Conference of the Catholic Bishops of the United States. This case faces another hearing on Friday.
