  • Scotsdale Ferrari’s Art Week will be held on March 20-23 at Westworld and will include approximately 100 galleries.
  • The organizers hope to attract both experienced art collectors and beginner enthusiasts with a number of exhibits, lectures and events.
  • The fair will show a varied selection of art, including paintings, sculptures and unique home furnishings, with prices ranging from affordable to high class.

Trey Brennan began preparing for an opening fair for exquisite arts to be held in Scottsdale when he encountered the unexpected problem that he should train the owners of the gallery from other countries and countries for what Arizona and Metro Phoenix have become.

As a gallery owner, Brennan knew that it would not be a small task that tried to persuade others to collect an excerpt from their paintings, sculptures or other works of art and send them here, with all logistics arrangements and expenses. What he did not realize is how few of the owners knew about the area.

“I assumed that the secret was out” about the growth of the valley, economic maturity and growing wealth, but this was not always in discussions with the owners of galleries around the world, he said. “Many of them thought we were just a bunch of cowboys, Indians and cactus.”

But the efforts eventually paid off, with approximately 100 galleries committing to show their works of art in Cabini at the Scotsdale Ferrari Art Week, set for March 20 to March 23.

The Scottsdale Fair will be held in the northern hall of 117,000 square meters in Westworld. Tickets for one -day reception starting at $ 30 are already on sale ($ 15 for children and students), with other events being available at additional costs. Ticket information and other details can be seen on Scottsdaleartweek.com.

The organizers of the event claim that despite the distinctive art of the Southwest and the growing wealth of many residents of the valley, the area did not host an event of such size that would appeal to the national audience for the gathering of art.

“This is a chance for people to see some of the most interesting and diverse arts in their lives,” says Jason Rose, co-founder and one of the main owners of the event in Scottsdale. “This is the biggest and best collection of galleries that have ever come to Arizona.”

Many to see, do and learn on Scottsdale Art Fair

Rose said he expects from 1000 to 2000 works of art to be sold and watched, covering antiquity to the modern one. There will also be parties, lectures, music, track shows and “lots of energy”, he swore.

Michael Plummer, a New York resident, a veteran of the industry and former chief operating officer of Christie’s Financial Services, helped to bring together the program as director for the development of the fair.

He described Metro Phoenix as one of the “undervalued collectors” communities of the nation, which makes this ideal atmosphere for such an event. But the fair will also make presentations aimed at beginner arts lovers, with Plummer plans to give a lecture on how to buy art for the first time.

The fairs, he added, are “good opportunities to learn about artists and various arts.” New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Ann Arbor, Michigan, are some of the other cities in the United States that hosts large fine artificial fairs.

All the pieces that appear in Scotsdale, mostly paintings and sculptures, will be available for purchase, Rose said. The fair will also include unusual or unique home furnishings and other design elements for sale.

Connecting to museums and sponsors

The fair will also coordinate with some events outside the site at the Phoenix Museum of Arts, the Hurd Museum, the Botanical Garden of the Desert, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Scottsdale and Talin West of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Event organizers hope to attract tourists to Cactus League spring training games and place it among other local seasonal events that include excellent automotive auctions and Phoenix Management Golf Tournaments.

Scotsdale Ferrari heads the Fair Sponsors, which also include Gila River Resorts & Casinos, Neiman Marcus, Sanderson Lincoln, Heritage Aucions, Turan Travel, Galerie Town, Breakthru, Vel.

Scotsdale’s architect Mark Candelaria sees the appearance of the fair as a sign that Metro Phoenix matures as an international center, with the gathering of art gaining more fame with the increase in wealth levels. “I design many high -end homes, and a good part of my clients are serious art collectors,” he said.

Candelaria, an investor at the fair, said it would present a visual show aimed at the collectors of “Big Fish, Heaviter-Hitter” before the official opening of the event.

As an indication of the state’s wealth, just under 750,000 Arizona residents report corrected gross income of $ 100,000 or more, representing about 22% of all households, according to internal revenue data for 2022, the latest year of the year of placement. About 42,000 households in Arizona report an income of $ 500,000 and up.

A number of exhibits, attractions

Tony Abeita will Curi or organize a special exhibition “Desert Modernism”, which will show the convergence and progression of Phoenix artists from local, Anglo and Latin American descent, from approximately 1930 to 1980. He is an artist of Dine, Dealer, curator and appraiser for PBS ‘Antiques Roadshow.

Other lectures and programs will be offered by representatives of the Museum of Arts of the State University of Arizona, the Center for Creative Photography, the Museum of the Arts of Phoenix and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Scottsdale.

The event is signed at galleries from as far away as Israel, Turkey, the United Kingdom and Japan. Arizona locations include Axiom Contemporary, Bentley Gallery, Gallery Larsen, Galleri Lisa Sette, Medicine Man Gallery, Fine Art Nelson and Xanad Gallery.

“Some galleries spend a little wealth just to enter our market,” says Brennan, who owns his own gallery Th Brennen Fine Art in Scotsdale. He plans to bring 12 to 15 paintings worth about $ 10,000 to $ 300,000 each at the upcoming event.

“There is a lot of costs and logistics related to the production of works of art at high prices at a fair,” he said.

Assessment of fine art as an investment

The investment potential of art is difficult to measure as each piece is unique. There is no updated publicly available prices and transactions information.

By one measure, the Sotheby Mei Moses indices, works of art, rated with a respectable 8.5% annual rate from 1950 to 2021. This is better than 5.2% average annual return on bonds from 1926, and But less than 10.4% of the annual stock return, according to Wilshire Associates.

But fine arts are usually difficult to sell and must be insured. It is also subject to potentially huge transaction costs when a collector buys or sells. Neither generates income.

On the contrary, art prices are not moving on a similar model to say in the stock market, providing benefits for diversifying an investment portfolio, Plummer said. Plus, there is an aspect of pleasure, as “art is a real advantage that you can appreciate on your wall,” Candelary said.
