Durham Cricket is delighted to announce the signing of Scotland international Catherine Fraser on a two-year contract ahead of the 2025 season.
Frasers off spin took his 50 wickets on the international stage aged just 19, with a best of 4-19 against Malaysia bowling the Edinburgh all-rounder.
Having represented Scotland at numerous youth and senior levels, Fraser made his national debut with the Northern Diamonds in 2023 and made an early impact, scoring 26 points and claiming 1-17 in a three-run win over Central Sparks.
In 2019, she made history by becoming Scotland’s youngest player to feature in a Women’s T20 International aged just 14, a record she still holds. Fraser captained Scotland at the inaugural ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup in January 2023, taking 10 wickets in four matches, including a key performance against the USA with 3/23, followed by 59 with the bat.
Catherine has also proved valuable at senior level, an ever-present during Scotland’s run to qualify for their first Women’s T20 World Cup in 2024, featuring four times for her national team during the recent World Cup in the United Arab Emirates .
On joining Durham, Fraser said: “Being part of Durham’s Tier 1 set for 2025 is an incredibly exciting opportunity and I can’t wait to get started. “Signing my first full-time contract is a dream come true and I’m grateful to Marcus and Danny for making it possible, especially with the exciting squad that Durham are assembling, allowing me to play cricket alongside some familiar faces while providing a chance to learn from new teammates.
“Durham’s holistic approach to the development of both this team and women’s cricket in the North East is one of the reasons I was so keen to join the county and I look forward to being involved.”
Director of Cricket Marcus North said: “We are extremely pleased to have recruited the exciting young Catherine Fraser to Durham.
“Catherine is a real all-rounder who further strengthens our batting and bowling but will really add to our already strong spin department.
“Despite being a Scotland international she qualifies as a domestic player and at only 19 that’s really exciting for us, she’s been shining with both bat and ball for the Northern Diamonds and internationally for Scotland and she will only continued to learn and improve as a Durham player. “We look forward to welcoming her to Durham and supporting her continued journey and her continued development on and off the pitch.”
