Columbia, SC-after a week of hiatus, the disputed school voucher in South Carolina has been archived as a debate in the State House.
The bill will give certain families to public dollars to send their children to private schools, and Republicans try to transfer it again after the Supreme Court of the State has ruled last year that the type of cost is not legal.
The biggest difference between this new Senate debate bill and the one that the Supreme Court partially reflected last year is that the new one will finance the program with lottery revenue instead of money from the general state fund.
Doing this, some Republicans believe that the program can pass the court of court this time.
Democrats from all over the country are against the program, believing that the millions of dollars that will go for paying training in private schools can instead be spent to improve public schools.
“We could take the way using this type of funding to build schools throughout the country,” said Senator Ronnie Sab, D – Williamburg.
But on Tuesday, Republican differences in other significant details, such as which families should be eligible, became more clear.
This bill will allow families to participate in the full implementation of the program if their income is less than 600% of the federal poverty level – about $ 187,000 a year for a family of four.
“Everyone is not a middle class in South Carolina,” said the leader of the Senate Shane Massi, R – Edgefield.
The tables proposed a change on Tuesday, which will reduce this maximum eligibility in the complete implementation of the program to 400% of the federal poverty level, about $ 125,000 for a family of four – the maximum according to the worse program that the legislative authorities approve.
Massey’s proposal returned other details of the bill back to the worse version, including a change of how many families will receive from an amount that varies from year to year to a fixed amount; Adding requirements for testing students for accountability; And the suppliers receiving these dollars require criminal checks.

In the end, more members of the Republican Super Majesty voted against the amendment, eliminating some of these requirements that Massey wanted to restore and save four family, making nearly $ 200,000 a year to get that money.
Senators still have more changes to go through and continue their debate on Wednesday.
If the bill passes to the Senate as expected, it still has to go through the House of Representatives to reach the governor’s desk.
