SBCUSD Education Council selects new officers – the Internal Empire Community

The University District of San Bernardino (Sbcusd) The Education Council on December 17 has elected its new President Maira Sebalos and Mary Ellen Abiles-Grande as their vice president.

Cebalos, the newly elected president, has served in the Council of Education for four years, being re -elected to a second term of the November 2024 election. Her focus on the upcoming term involves mastering parents to become informed of their children’s education, As they become allies of their children’s teachers, increasing the number of students who are ready for college and support the career paths and visual arts.

Abiles-Grande, selected as Vice President, has many years of experience as a special education teacher at SBCUSD. Its leadership will help to manage the efforts of the board to expand the transition program for students with exceptional needs and to promote and support regional teachers in receiving certification of the National Council, which will recognize the achieved teachers and generate an ongoing improvement in the instruction.

Also, on December 17, the area welcomed the new guardian Michael Santos, who was selected by voters in November at a four -year term. Santos, Cebalos, Dr. Scott Wyat and Felicia Alexander also swore to the board of directors.

The selected education board sets policies, approves budgets and provides supervision to ensure that the area provides high quality education and meets the needs of its more than 46,000 students.

SBCUSD Superintendent Mauricio Arelano Praise the new management of the board, saying: “We are excited to work with Myra and Mary Ellen and the entire Management Board while we continue to create opportunities for our students, to build stronger schools and to provide a bright future for the San Bernardino Community . “

The new president and vice president officially took their roles on December 17th. They are committed to cooperating with council members, regional leaders and the community to ensure that all SBCUSD students receive the resources and support they need to succeed.

The Education Council occurs at 5:30 pm on the first and third Tuesday of each month, unless it changes on board, in the community of Dr. Margaret Hill, 777 North F Street in San Bernardino.
