Santa Fe chief of schools resigned because of sexual harassment claims – KOB 4

Santa Fe, NM – Santa Fe, the head of public schools resigned as a result of sexual harassment against him.

SFPS President Roman Abeta told members of the board that he had received a resignation letter on Thursday night from Chief Hillary “Lari” Chavez. The resignation of the chief has been in force since June 30, but he will immediately be out of work using his accumulated leave.

Veronica Garcia will take over as an acting head of the district. They hope to have a new chief hired until early July. Between now and then the area will seek the contribution of the community to hiring.

Last week, Amanda Chavez, the former assistant director at Santa Fe High School, said the chief harassed her sexually and avenged her. Chavez claims that her chief had sent her sexually explicit text messages and avenged her when she did not agree to his progress. The claims were raised after she resigned from her work as an assistant director.

Chavez filed a complaint with the school board in December and also plans to judge.

“He began this model of sending her to these sexually harassing texts. She declined to have his sexual progress. Then the school neighborhood began to avenge her. She would not receive job tasks she wanted, she became clear to her that there was no future there, “said John Day, her lawyer.

Her lawyer said she was waiting at the human rights desk in New Mexico to give them the green light to bring this case.

During a special meeting on Friday on the charges, the Council said they could not justify the allegations. They continue to investigate.
