San Diego State Aztecs betting preview
The Aztecs opened the year with a win over Texas A&M-Commerce, then fell to Oregon State, California and Central Michigan in the next three. San Diego State would rebound with wins over Hawaii and Wyoming from there.
Back on Saturday against Washington State, the Aztecs had a 19-14 lead going into the final quarter, but ended up losing a tough quarter 29-26. QB Danny O’Neal threw for 195 yards and an interception, while Marques Cooper did most of the work on the ground with 78 yards and two scores.
Boise State Broncos betting preview
On the Boise State side, they beat Georgia Southern out of the gate before losing to Oregon 37-34. The Broncos have run the table ever since, upending Portland, Washington, Utah, Hawai’i and UNLV in succession.
Facing UNLV last Friday, the Broncos carried a 20-10 advantage into the second half. Boise State was outshot 14-9 from there, but held on for the 29-24 win. QB Maddux Madsen finished with 209 yards and a score (with a rushing TD). Ashton Janty carried 33 times for 128 yards and a touchdown of his own.
San Diego State vs Boise State Prediction
I’m leaning towards Boise State, but the line is probably too thick to mess with. However, the Broncos didn’t play the greatest game in the world against UNLV last Friday. Boise State posted 394 total yards (209 passing) and 21 first downs, but went just 3-of-15 on third down attempts. Defensively, the Broncos gave up 367 yards (179 passing) and 6.3 yards per play in the tight win.
As for San Diego State, they fell late at Washington State on Saturday, but couldn’t finish it off. A 5-of-14 rate on third downs and eight total penalties were the most glaring statistical flaws. I like the Aztecs to bounce back a bit and play well here, but I don’t think they’ll cover completely.
