U.S. Senate candidates Sam Brown and incumbent Jackie Rosen cast their ballots on Election Day.
Brown, a Republican, voted at a high school in Reno, while Rosen, a Democrat, voted at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
“We’re going to vote, we’re going to participate, and our country is going to make a choice, and we’re ready, and I believe most people are prepared live with that, and I’m just excited to vote for a brighter future,” Brown told us.
After the vote, Rosen said, “Don’t stand. Let your voice be heard. It’s really important. And if you want to vote for someone who will continue to invest in our country, invest in our families, accept the challenges that we have to — and we have challenges, but we’re working together to try to find smart solutions to them, then you should to vote.”
Rosen cast himself as a nonpartisan advocate for Nevadans in Washington, DC. Brown hopes Nevada’s high working-class cost of living will help swing the vote in his favor. Brown is a former Army captain who was severely wounded in Afghanistan and earned a Purple Heart.
Rosen won in 2018 when the previous senator who held the role, Republican Sen. Dean Heller, veered sharply to the right in response to attacks by Donald Trump. The state’s other senator, Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, narrowly won re-election in 2022 against a Trump-backed candidate.
Trump endorsed Brown in the state primary, but his political career predates Trump. Brown tried to run for a Texas House seat in 2014 before moving to Nevada in 2018 and running unsuccessfully in the 2022 Republican primary to challenge Cortes Masto.
In 2008, Brown was seriously injured by an improvised explosive device during a Taliban ambush on his unit in southern Afghanistan. He left the military in 2011 after 30 surgeries and years of recovery, founding a business to help veterans get medical care.
Rosen blasted Brown for his stance on abortion, saying he would vote for a national ban if sent to Washington, D.C.
