Game 1: Santa Fe Falls 9-7 to St. John River State College

Santa Fe (0-3) dropped the first game of the day to St. John River State College (2-1), losing 9-7. St. John River jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first three and a half innings before the Saints were able to score a run in the bottom of the fourth. Santa Fe then made a strong push in the sixth inning, scoring four runs to cut the deficit to 7-6.

With momentum in their favor, the Saints were hit with a three-run home run by St. John River that extended their lead to 9-6 heading into the final inning. Santa Fe rallied, scoring two more runs, but gave up against Division II’s preseason No. 1 team.

Game 2: Santa Fe rallies for an 8-3 win over Walters State Community College

In the second game of the day, Santa Fe (1-3) defeated Walters State Community College (3-1) 8-3. The visiting Saints took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Walters State answered in the bottom of the first, scoring all three of its runs to take a brief 3-2 lead.

The Saints regained control in the top of the fourth with two runs, then added two more in the sixth and seventh innings to seal the win. Santa Fe collected 11 hits in the game, including McKenzie Jewell’s first home run as a Saint.

Baseball

Game One: Saints fall 2-1 to Indian River College

The Santa Fe baseball team (1-1) faced Indian River State College in its first doubleheader of the day. In Game 1, Indian River (2-0) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Santa Fe answered in the third inning when Javier Soto drove in Aiden Andreu for the team’s only run. Indian River loaded the bases in the eighth and won the game with a base hit.

Game 2: Santa Fe defeats Palm Beach State 9-7

In Game 2, the Saints (2-1) rebounded with a 9-7 victory over Palm Beach State (0-3). Santa Fe built a 6-0 lead with a three-run second inning, a run in the third and two runs in the fourth. Palm Beach State answered with a run in the fifth and five runs in the sixth, tying the game at 6-6.

Santa Fe took control again in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three more runs that proved to be the difference. A run in the seventh wasn’t enough for Palm Beach, and the Saints held on for the win.
