Running in Talahasi: FSU runners – its campus

This article was written by a student writer from her campus in FSU head.

In the early morning of February 2, hundreds of girls at college in brightly colored sports costs and slippery hairstyles headed up the hills of South Monroe Street to Capitol in Florida. They were on a mission, on the way to the opening line of 50th Annual Tallahasee & Half Marathon Marathon.

While my roommate and I stole ourselves for 13.1 miles of relative hell, with Lululemon’s outfits and tight braids in my hair, we looked around and saw so many of our fellow students. The Tallahassee community surrounded us and we all had the same purpose: to cross the start line in front of us and to finish the competition in the City College.

Between all and the end of the race? Different parts of the city. We had to deal with hundreds of feet from the gain of the elevation and run around Lake Ella, the Cascadian Park, the Doac Campbell Stadium, and before we could finish the toasts to hold signatures, a medal carrying a crowd.

Running is difficult, whether you do it for a medal or just enter these fearsome 10 minutes on the running path at the FSU Leach recreation center. But it is easier when you have places to research and community behind you. When I ask if I need To stay active, a new path to try or a friend to run with can do everything different.

For my FSU runners, here’s your Talahassi Running Guide, including where to run and with whom, so you can get excited to go out to town for your cardio.

Park on Lake Lake and Cascades

Like someone who has lived in South Florida for seven years, the lakes and parks of Talahassi can feel like such a treat. Just minutes of FSU you can breathe in the pine aroma of hidden paths and a circumference around the flashing water at sunset.

Lake Ella is the perfect short contour (0.8 miles of paths and more mileage potential in the surrounding neighborhood), complete with a cafe nearby for after-work.

In addition, Lapping Cascades Park on South Gadsden Street was one of my favorite parts of half a marathon. Its 2.3 mile paths twist around relaxing grassy areas and fountains.

Trail Tom Brown Park, Jr Alford Greenway or Apalachee Regional Park

For even more vast lakes and longer off-road tracks, taking the paths in Tom Brown Park or Jr. Alford Greenway will let you feel intertwined with the natural environment of Talahassi.

In the Apalachee Regional Park you can see former school runners who enjoy a 5K year. This is because the park is one of the few nation sites designed specifically for Cross competitions.

Find a running friend or community

Now that you have found your favorite path in the Talahassi Desert, who do you wear for your Saturday morning jog? I am lucky that I found my running friend in my roommate. It is the only reason I keep up with my workouts with a semi -marathon. But if your friends cannot bear this idea, the Tallahasesee community that covers you.

FSU’s own Seminole Striders welcomes runners at all levels hosting a combination of inclusion practices and out of campus. They also maintain their members stimulated with parties after pasta.

In the bigger community outside the FSU, Gulf Winds Track Club hosts regular competitions, and the Tallahassee Group of black girls run! It helps to promote black women to prioritize and enjoy fitness.

I hope this guide helps you get your head in your running days through Tallahassee with friends and those in your community and exploring all the beauty that the city offers. Happy running!
