Robert E. Burks

Robert “Bob” Elmer Burks, 78, of Lubbock, formerly of Uvalde, died Oct. 6, 2024. at Carillon Senior Living in Lubbock.

He was born on October 18, 1945. in Big Spring to Emma Golightly and Elmer Burks. Graduated from Uvalde High School in 1964. and attended Texas Tech University.

He was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, where he served as a layman. His family said he touched the lives of those he knew through his compassion, empathy and listening. They said he enjoyed meeting people at every opportunity and was a caring and generous person filled with the holy spirit.

His family said he was a talented carpenter and shared that passion with family, friends and strangers. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He worked as a salesman throughout his career and his family said he found much joy and satisfaction in that work. His career began at Sheppard’s Clothing Store in Uvalde. He later purchased Uvalde Office Supply, where he sold Xerox office equipment and was one of the leading dealers in the country. He moved to San Antonio in the 1990s and continued to sell Xerox equipment.

While working in San Antonio, he lived in Canyon Lake, and his family said he loved sitting on the porch, looking out at the lake and watching the boats. After he retired, he moved from the lake to the peaceful mountains of Ruidoso, New Mexico, where the view was magnificent and his family said he spent most of his time on the deck, admiring the beauty of nature and working in the carpentry shop. you are a shop. He spent the last three years in Lubbock, near his family. His family said memories of his kindness, wisdom, humor and love will be cherished forever and that he was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his daughter, Robin Burks Welch and her husband, Ron, of Lubbock; two grandsons, Garrett Welch and John Welch and wife, Reilly; brother and best friend, Joe Burks and wife, Betty, of Weatherford; two nephews, Alan Burks and Robert Sicker and wife, Cassie; niece Emily Allen and husband Colby; great-nephew River Allen and great-niece Lucy Seeker.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Episcopal Church of St. Philip, 343 N. Getty St., Uvalde, TX 78801, or to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org/donate, in memory of Bob Burks.
