A Philadelphia judge has blocked an expansion of the Port of Wilmington, saying it doesn’t have enough permits.
The decision comes after Delaware received permits from the US Army Corps of Engineers to build a new container terminal at Edgemoor. As a result, Pennsylvania and New Jersey sued.
It’s just the latest challenge in an ongoing rivalry for Delaware River shipping profits involving the ports of Wilmington and Philadelphia.
Delaware Gov. John Carney expressed disappointment with the decision, emphasizing the port’s expansion potential to create jobs.
