Just as Conor McDavid is poised to return from his three-game stint with the Edmonton Oilers against Seattle on Monday night, hockey’s most respected commentator Don Cherry has weighed in to decry the various unsanctioned holds and tackles Vancouver’s Conor Garland used on McDavid, Provoked McDavid to Lash Pack.

“It was ridiculous,” Cherry said on his Grapevine podcast. “I mean, he (Garland) really, really has it tied up.”
But Cherry felt the NHL’s George Parros of Player Safety should give McVidd and Tyler Myers equal suspensions for their respective crossings to the head.
“Well, you had to give him three games if the other guy (Myers) got three games.”

Cherry also said the two-minute penalty for inciting the NHL fights for a player standing up for his star teammate is ridiculous. Stars were better protected in the past, he said. “Everybody used to take care of, take care of (Guy Lafleur), take care of (Steve) Step… Say you pick on Shutt. A man is coming. They take care of their own. And then someone made this rule that now you have two, five, and ten. The rule of inducement. “
