Rick Scott Donates Senate Salary to Museums Honoring Cuba’s Freedom Struggle – Florida Daily

Senator Rick Scottwho has always donated his salary in the Senate and also donated his salary during his two terms as governor of Florida, announced that a portion of his Senate salary donations this year were given to three South Florida museums honoring the struggle for freedom in Cuba. The senator has donated to the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora, the Bay of Pigs Museum and Library and the Hialeah Gardens Museum in honor of the 2506th Assault Brigade.

“Anne and I are pleased to support the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora, the Bay of Pigs Museum and Library and the Hialeah Gardens Museum in honor of Assault Brigade 2506,” said Scott. “These great museums honor those who fought for democracy and freedom for the Cuban people and pay tribute to the great cultural contributions of the Cuban people to the United States.” As I travel across the state, I meet so many amazing people who fled the evil Cuban regime, know what it’s like to face real oppression and evil, and truly understand the importance of freedom and democracy that the United States must always stand for. Anne and I proudly share and support this museum’s commitment to shining a light on freedom and ensuring that Americans know the true dangers of socialism and communism.

Marcel Felipe, Chairman of the New American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora, thanked Senator Scott for the donation.

“There is a clear distinction between a leader and a politician, one sees power as a means and therefore leaves a legacy of greatness, the other sees power as an end and never leaves any legacy,” Felipe said. “Senator Scott is everything we desire in a leader. He rose to the occasion on behalf of the oppressed abroad, never bowed to the oppressors at home, and always inspired Americans to keep working to make their country great. A successful entrepreneur and job creator who has put those talents to work for his fellow Americans, Rick Scott embodies the best of America and the hopes placed on America by those who love it and wish it well. That Senator Scott and Mrs. Scott donate his salary to the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora gives us pride, hope, and purpose in our mission, which at its core is a warning about how a prosperous democracy can turn into an impoverished dictatorship for a generation. This contribution fuels the belief that this great country has great leaders and is in itself a cause worth fighting for. Those who come from countries plagued by socialism are grateful for leaders like Scott who understand the threat the ideology poses to America and humanity.

Rafael Montalvo, President of the 2506 Brigade Veterans Association and Dr. Eulacey Mena, Executive Director of the Bay of Pigs Museum and Library, said, “We are so grateful for the support of Senator Rick Scott and Mrs. Ann Scott to continue our mission to be the world’s leading institution investigating the profound impact of the Bay of Pigs invasion on the United States, Cuba and the world,” Montalvo said. “Through our carefully selected collection, our museum preserves the history of the event and honors the men who took part, and connects past and present freedom struggles.”
