West Baton Rouge – For nearly two years, Tim Amond has been fighting the exhausting effects of renal failure, withstanding dialysis treatments three times a week. A retired deputy at the West Batton Rouge Sheriff’s office, Tim has dedicated 35 years to service to his community, but now he needs help. His wife, Shana Amond, is a desperate search for a living kidney donor to save her life.

Tim renal failure stems from complications of diabetes, a disease that has already led to amputation and left it blind in one eye. Although he has been on the transplant list for a year and a half, the kidney wait is long and dialysis affects his health.

A difficult request for help

Shanna recently undertook social media, making an emotional request for a living donor.

“It was something very difficult for me to even try to post,” she admitted. “I had to sit here and think about it and pray. I was like, you know, he has been fighting dialysis lately. He gets the best of him. Then he also eventually had a dizziness attack that he really took him from him. With his balance, which is already affected and blindness in one eye, it was just so difficult. “

Shanna’s post has been shared more than 500 times, with several people striving to ask themselves to become potential donors. One of the most touching offers came from Tim’s 88-year-old aunt, who told Shana that he wanted to donate her kidney despite her own diminishing health.

“She blessed her heart, she’s 88 years old,” Shana said. “She said to me,” I want him to have my good kidney. ” This is his mother’s sister. “

Community gathers together

Despite the huge challenges, Shana remains hope. “I had four people to contact and to say that they had completed the survey to see if they would be right,” she said. “I just pull with straws, but I have to try something about it.”

Tim’s diabetes is somewhat stable after dialysis starts, but without transplantation it will be dependent on exhausting treatments for an indefinite period.
