REPORT: Washington Commanders want to trade last remaining Ron Rivera 1 st. Choice – Sports Illustrated

The Washington Commanders have plenty of people hoping to see them make a move before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.

Most are looking for the Chiefs to add a player or two and have a group of positions in mind where they would specifically like to see general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn make an addition.

Washington’s secondary is widely considered the most talent-poor group on the roster, leading to many calls for the team to trade any number of cornerbacks — the particular group many consider the weakest link.

We know that Peters and his team are constantly looking for opportunities to make the roster better, not as an indictment of the current members, but out of a deliberate desire to be competitive 24/7.

That desire to compete has led to the departure of several players who don’t necessarily fit that mold, including several first-round picks taken before Peters and Quinn arrived. And according to Josina Anderson’s report Monday night, another — the final out of Ron Rivera’s draft classes — may be on his way out.

“I’m told commanders have recently assessed potential interest for 2023. first-round corner Emmanuel Forbes Jr. on the trade market,” Anderson tweeted, citing unnamed sources for the report.

Not surprisingly, the team could be stretched to gauge interest in the cornerback, who has appeared on just over 100 snaps this season and didn’t play a single one in the Week 9 win over the New York Giants.

Speculation that Forbes could leave has been consistent since the offseason and peaked during training camp, when the second-year corner appeared to struggle quite often during open practices.

However, the team began the season with Forbes lined up against Benjamin Saint-Just, who has since been paired with rookie Mike Sainristil after the Commanders’ defense gave Noah Igbinogen and Michael Davis opportunities to secure the job as well.

The deadline for teams to agree to trades is Tuesday, November 5th at 4pm ET.
