Report: Packers offensive coordinator interviewed for Seahawks OC position – Field Gulls

On Saturday night, CBS’s lead NFL insider, Jonathan Jones, reported that Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stanavich may be interested in a lateral transfer to the Seattle Seahawks and, in fact, has already interviewed for the role.

Adam Stanavich, Michigan’s left tackle during his college years, failed to make an NFL roster. He spent time on the practice squads of the Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans… and the Green Bay Packers. Stanavich began his coaching career back at Michigan as a strength and conditioning coach in 2011 before making his way to the NFL as an offensive line coach under Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers in 2017. From there, Stanavich moved to Green Bay to serve as offensive line coach under Matt Lafleur and the Packers in 2019 before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2022. LaFleur is still calling the plays in Green Bay, while he will likely be the punter if hired by the Seahawks.

With the offense led by Matt LaFleur and Adam Stanavich, the Packers had a fairly lackluster offensive attack in 2022, finishing 8-9 during Aaron Rodgers’ final season in Green Bay. In 2023 The Packers got off to a slow start with Jordan Love at the helm, but finished the season 6-2. Thanks to a strong tiebreaker win over Seattle, the Packers made the playoffs as the seventh seed and piled up 48 points in a wild card win against the Dallas Cowboys. In the divisional round, they lost 24-21 to the San Francisco 49ers.

In 2024 The Packers improved again with an 11-6 regular season record (including a Week 15 win against the Seahawks on Sunday Night Football). However, they exited the playoffs early after losing to the Eagles in the wild card round.

According to PFF, the Packers ranked No. 8th overall by points scored in 2024. with 430. PFF and the Pro Football Network have the Packers’ offensive line at No. 9th in general and especially effective during pass blocking.

When Stanavich arrived in Green Bay, he inherited a formidable group of veterans on the offensive line. And how did he endear himself to this group? According to Connor Orr’s January 16 article for SI.com, he poked fun at himself:

Stanavich would regularly be mocked for both his baldness and the fact that he preferred, as Bakhtiari put it, “early 2000s” style streetwear. His shorts would have entered “Capri territory,” according to the three-time Pro Bowler. He would take the criticism in stride and then, on a random day, show up in “the brightest outfit you’ve ever seen” just to let everyone know he was in on the joke.

In Seattle, one thing remains clear: Mike McDonald and John Schneider are doing their homework and taking their time to find the next offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks. There are a lot of names, but I can’t tell you who they actually like or who might come in for an interview next. While we wait for more news, check out this great breakdown of the out of zone combo block drill from Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Adam Stanavich interviewed:
