The Memphis Showboats are poised to sign defensive end Mark Gilbert on Saturday, according to Pro Football Newsroom writer James Larsen.
Mark Gilbert is six foot one and weighs 190 pounds. The 27-year-old from Fayetteville, North Carolina signed with the Birmingham Stallions on January 19, 2024. In 2024 Gilbert had 26 tackles (21 solo, 5 assists), one interception, five pass breakups and one fumble recovery in seven games as the Stallions won their third straight title over the San Antonio Brahmas 25-0. He became a free agent after the season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Gilbert as an undrafted free agent on May 7, 2021. In 2021 he made five tackles (4 solo, 1 assist) in four preseason games. The Detroit Lions waived Gilbert off the Pittsburgh practice squad on October 13, 2021. Gilbert made three tackles (2 solo, 1 assist) in games. In 2022 he made six tackles (4 solo, 2 assists) in three preseason games. The Lions released him on August 30, 2022.
The Pittsburgh Maulers signed Gilbert on March 25, 2023. In 2023 he had 32 tackles (29 solo, 3 assists), two tackles for loss, four interceptions for 29 yards and 15 pass breakups in ten games. He was named to the All-USFL team. After the season, Gilbert signed with the Miami Dolphins on August 4, 2023. He played one preseason game with one tackle (1 solo) against the Atlanta Falcons. The Dolphins released him on August 18, 2023.
Collegiately, Gilbert played five seasons at Duke (2016-20), making 65 tackles (44 solo, 21 assists), five tackles for loss, seven interceptions and 24 pass breakups in 29 games for the Blue Devils. He was named first team All-ACC in 2017.
