LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A shooting on I-15 that left a Valley father dead was the result of road rage, a new arrest warrant reveals.
On August 8, Darin Alji, 30, was killed in a shooting on southbound I-15 in Flamingo. On Monday, Las Vegas Metro Police announced the arrest of two suspects: 23-year-old Jason Lovett and 18-year-old Damarion Bell.
According to police, surveillance video captured by a FedEx truck also traveling in the area shows the white Renegade SUV passing him at a high rate of speed, swerving between lanes before hitting Algee’s Audi.
“The Audi then spun to the right, then to the left, back to the right, then to the left, striking the center median wall,” the warrant states.
An initial search of Algee’s vehicle found multiple bullets from inside the vehicle.
Nearly two weeks later, the LVMPD fusion center was notified that a commercial license plate scanner had located the white SUV. North Las Vegas police officers were able to retrieve the SUV from a parking lot in the 1000 block of East Carey Avenue.
Surveillance footage provided by an area resident shows the suspects park the vehicle and “wipe it down” before leaving it. The vehicle, which police learned was stolen, was impounded and several possible pieces of evidence were recovered.
After reviewing DNA evidence recovered from the SUV and comparing surveillance footage of the suspects, police were able to identify Lovett and Bell as the suspects.
Both Bell and Lovett were taken into custody on Friday, October 18. In an arrest report, Metro Police said Lovett was arrested after stealing a vehicle and running from police with a third, unrelated suspect.
Both suspects are due to appear in court for a background check on Thursday, October 24.
