Reno accepts conditional offer for City Manager position pending Council vote – WPSD Local 6

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The “interim” label on Stan Reno’s position as interim city manager is one step closer to being out, as the city announced Friday, Jan. 24, the acceptance of a conditional offer to become Carbondale’s next city manager.

The offer is pending approval by the City Council, which will meet next Tuesday, January 28. As of Friday afternoon, the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting did not include an item related to the city manager’s vote, but that is subject to change.

Reno has served as interim city manager since April, concurrent with his job as police chief of the Carbondale Police Department.

“Over the past eight months, I’ve learned a lot and been involved in a number of different initiatives that the city is involved in,” Reno said. “At this point, moving forward, I will continue to work and be able to devote more time and attention to each of these things.”

Reno has been Carbondale’s police chief since 2021, with three decades of experience with CPD prior to that. Along with accepting the city manager role, Reno will resign as police chief and plans to name an acting police chief in the coming weeks ahead of a national search to find a permanent replacement.
