Carbondale, Illinois-the “intermediate” label for Stan Renault’s position as a temporary city governor is one step closer to the exit, as the city announced on Friday, January 24, its acceptance of a conditional proposal to become the next city governor in Carbondale.
The offer awaits approval from the City Council, which will meet next Tuesday, January 28. As of Friday afternoon, the agenda for the Tuesday meeting did not include a point related to the vote of the city governor, but this was subject to change.
Reno has been serving as a temporary city governor since April, at the same time as his work as a police chief of the Carbondale Police Department.
“In the last eight months I have learned a lot and have committed myself to a number of different initiatives in which the city is involved,” Rino said. “At this point, as I continue, I will continue to work and be able to spend more time and attention to each of these things.”
Reno has been the Carbondale Police Head of 2021, with three decades of CPD experience before. Along with the accepting of the role of an city manager, Rino will resign as a police chief and plans to appoint an acting police chief in the coming weeks before national demand to find a permanent deputy.
