A judge stops President Trump’s pause on federal help money
A judge stopped Donald Trump’s order from “temporary pause” a certain federal assistance until February 3, when another hearing will be held.
Reno and Washoe County are struggling to understand exactly how their local needs will be affected with the pause of President Donald Trump on grants, loan and other financial aid programs.
USA Today has announced that US district judge Loren Alihan is temporarily blocking the Trump administration to suspend the grant at least February 3.
Renault Hillary Sheve Mayor told RGJ on Tuesday that it is too early to evaluate the full impact of the freezing of federal funding, but that does not mean that they are not preparing.
“We already know that this will affect many of our most vulnerable inhabitants, as well as public safety,” Shia said. “I will do everything in my ability to repel myself to make sure we continue these critical services.”
Based on what Renault uses federal help and grant in 2024, Schieve gave a list of some areas that can be influenced:
- Rent, security assistance
- Improvement of Parks, Public Facilities and ADA needs
- Development of apartment units at affordable prices
- Public works such as crossed signs and lights, pedestrian ramps and beacons in the school zone
- Reno Police Grants for Overtime, Consumables and Training
Washoe County spokesman Bethani Dracedale told RGJ that many of the district programs could be affected, but they were not sure to what extent. The county works on inventing exactly what the order means.
