Reeves ‘happy’ to look at the United Kingdom, joining the Pan -European Trade Zone – Irvine Times

The Chancellor indicated that the government would look at the prospect of registering with the Pan-European-Sre-Medial Convention (PEM), as this would be “constructive ideas” corresponding to its “red lines” for not returning in the EU.

Labor excluded the re-joining of the Customs Union or the Single Market, but is committed to seeking more economic cooperation with Brussels as part of resetting in relations in the UK and the EU.

EU Commissioner Maros Sephkovic this week suggested that the UK could join PEM, which allows for rates for trade in goods across Europe, as well as some North African and Levantine countries.

Speaking to Sunday operators, Da -Ja Reeves said she was “happy to look” to the UK’s perspective to join the scheme with Europe.

Asked if the UK would enter the PEM, the chancellor told Sky News on Sunday morning with Trevor Phillips: “It was really interesting to see Maros Sefkovic this week suggest that the United Kingdom could be welcome to this pan -European and Mediterranean customs framework.

“We are absolutely happy to look at these different suggestions because we know that the deal that the previous government has provided does not work well enough.

“It does not work well enough for small businesses that are trying to export, it does not work well enough for the bigger businesses.

“We have grown up, admitting this until the previous government said there were no problems at all.

“And where there are constructive ideas, we are happy to watch them, as long as they are in line with the red lines that we have exposed to our manifesto.”
